The Special Olympics Alberta Winter Games are coming up in Calgary next month.
Over 1000 athletes, coaches and missions staff from all over Alberta and Northwest Territories will be in the province from February 8th-10th.
Karen Mengersen with Special Olympics Olds & District says they have two five pin bowling teams - for a total of ten bowlers - plus one skier along with three coaches attending.
With the games so close to home, she encourages the public to come cheer on the athletes.
Team Olds & District will be walking in on February 8th at Canada Olympic Park for the "Light Up The Night" opening ceremonies.
Tickets are on eventbrite.ca by searching Special Olympic Alberta Winter Games.
Meantime, Mengersen says their local athletes continue to be busy with curling, basketball and swimming this winter.
They have an upcoming swim meet in Red Deer and a 5 pin bowling tournament in Airdrie.
This month they were also in Calgary for a bowling tournament and curling in Leduc.
Coming up this March 14-21st, Mark Mengersen will represent Team Canada in 10-pin bowling at the 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi.
