Doreen Bergum from Olds - the Metis Elder for Region 3 - received a Lifetime Achievement Award in Red Deer on Wednesday, June 19th. The Red Deer & District Community Foundation hosted another edition of its Women of Excellence Awards.
Doreen Bergum from Olds received a Lifetime Achievement Award during the 2019 Women of Excellence Awards in Red Deer on Wednesday, June 19th.
Bergum says this is her 8th year as the Metis Elder for this region.
Bergum volunteers with the Sundre Museum and belongs to the Olds Indigenous Working Group. She helped plan Indigenous Peoples Day which was celebrated on Tuesday, June 18th.
She thanks the town of Olds and Mitch Thompson with the Olds Institute for their support of culture in the community.
Bergum was also nominated in the Arts & Culture category.
Fellow nominees from Olds at the Women of Excellence Awards were Rachel Andres in Athletics, Recreation & Fitness.
Elsie Matchell in the Human Services category, and Christina Ray in Community Building.
The awards were hosted by the Red Deer & District Community Foundation.
