Minister of Agriculture & Forestry and Innisfail-Sylvan Lake MLA Devin Dreeshen says the government is committed to funding important rural initiatives.
The provincial government is making key strategic investments according to the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry.
Innisfail-Sylvan Lake MLA Devin Dreeshen says the first 6 months of this government went through the entire ministry to find efficiencies.
There is also commitment to irrigation districts around the province and for rural utilities.
According to Dreeshen, there will be bankable and predictable programs so farmers can feel government support during this difficult harvest.
Meantime, Cannabis growing facilities in Alberta must now pay property taxes to rural municipalities.
This follows an announcement at the Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) convention in Edmonton this month.
Since legalization last year cannabis growing facilities have received a tax exemption as agricultural operations.
Minister Dreeshen says this is something municipalities were looking forward to.
This will take affect in the 2020 tax year.
