Another Olds College Student Vying For TEC Edmonton's Top Prize

Alex Villeneuve hopes to continue a successful run at the TEC Edmonton competition for Olds College. Last year Peter Schill and Tyler Rose from OC won for their business Alberta Craft Malting.

Olds College student Alex Villeneuve will present his innovative project to the VenturePrize awards judges in Edmonton on April 21st.

He is one of three finalists for TEC Edmonton's top prize of $20,000 and says it is kind of like the TV show Dragon's Den with the winner selected later that day.

Villeneuve is a first year student in OC's Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management Program.

His student business plan is for a project he is already doing and it finds a use for the hundreds of pounds of spent grains, which are produced during the brewing process.

Villeneuve has already incorporated his company, Ceres Solutions Ltd. He says going to Olds College and working alongside researcher Dr. Paul Tiege has been absolutely incredible.

Out of the 21 breweries currently operating in Alberta, Villeneuve has approached 8 of them and all 8 have been really excited to partner with him. So he says winning the top prize money from the TechVenture competition would be a big help.

He adds, the VenturePrize awards are a way for TEC Edmonton to try and encourage student entrepreneurs.
