The Mountain View Colts began their 2019 Heritage Junior Hockey League playoff run by firing 54 shots at the Ponoka net on Wednesday, February 13th in Didsbury.
As heard on 96.5 CKFM, the Mountain View Colts beat the Ponoka Stampeders 5-1 on Wednesday, February 13th.
The Colts now have a 1-0 lead in that best of three opening round HJHL playoff series.
20 year old forward Caden Switzer from Didsbury scored twice in the Game 1 win at the Didsbury Memorial Complex.
Mountain View peppered Stamps 20 year old goaltender Keenan Starkell from Canoe, B.C. with 52 shots but he made 49 saves. 2 of the goals for the home team were into an empty net as Ponoka pulled out all the stops to try and tied the game in the third period.
Switzer says the Colts new if they kept up the pressure they would eventually get the win.
Switzer had just one goal in 35 games during the regular season to go along with 16 assists.
The final shots in the game were 54 to 19 for Mountain View.
Mitch Visser, Wyatt Gelinas and Sam Kolke also scored for the Colts, while Ethan Woodward made 19 stops to earn his 3rd career playoff victory.
Mountain View will try to cap off a series sweep on Saturday in Ponoka. If necessary a third and deciding game would be back in Didsbury on Sunday, February 17th at 8pm and 96.5 CKFM will have live play-by-play coverage.
