Didsbury High School Band Teacher Receives Provincial Award

After nearly two decades of engaging countless students in the craft and discipline of music, Kirk Wassmer is being recognized by the Alberta Band Association. Wassmer is in his 19th year of teaching at Didsbury High School and he has received the Elkhorn Band Director of the Year award.

The Elkhorn Band Director of the Year Award has been presented to a Didsbury High School teacher.

Kirk Wassmer has been recognized by the Alberta Band Association for exemplifying dedication and outstanding commitment as well as what he has contributed to band music in Alberta.

He discusses the nomination process for the award.



Wassmer is honoured to receive the award.

Kirk received the recognition at a recent event in Calgary.

For nearly two decades, Wassmer has been teaching at Didsbury High School.

There are plenty of benefits to making music part of your life as a student, according to Wassmer.

He believes it is important to participate.

Wassmer says about 160 students are taking band classes at DHS this year.

The fall concert is at 7 o'clock in the DHS Gymnasium on Thursday, November 7th. Admission is by donation.
