Drumheller RCMP - Search Of Truck Stolen From Olds Results In Charges

A 36 year old Drumheller man faces charges after Drumheller RCMP searched a vehicle in March.

Drumheller, Alberta ~ On Friday, March 30th Drumheller RCMP executed a search warrant on a black Ford F250 truck.

It was discovered during the search that the Vehicle Information Number (VIN) on the dashboard of the truck was replaced with a fraudulent VIN.

An investigation of the newly recovered VIN determined that it too was fraudulent. With the assistance of the Southern Alberta Auto Theft Unit, police were finally able to uncover the true VIN of the vehicle. In total there were 3 separate fraudulent VIN documents on the truck.

Once the real VIN was uncovered, it was then determined the truck had been stolen out of the town of Olds in January of 2019.

36 year old John Douglas McConnell of Drumheller is facing charges of possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, altering/removing/tampering with a VIN and breach of recognizance.

Drumheller RCMP say McConnell is in custody on additional charges and will appear in Calgary court on Aprli 3rd for a release hearing.
