It was confirmed on Friday, January 31st that Jocelyn Peterman from Red Deer will be playing in the 2020 Humpty's Champions Cup curling event when it comes to the town of Olds later this season.
Peterman now lives in Winnipeg but she remains a local favorite for curling fans in the town of Olds.
The 26 year old is currently the second for Team Jennifer Jones. Jones and her rink earned an invite to the Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling season finale in Olds on the strength of a victory at the AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Classic in Cornwall, Ontario back in September.
At the moment Peterman and Team Jones are regrouping after losing to Team Kerri Einarson 8-6 in the final at the Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Rivers, Manitoba on Sunday, February 2nd.
Peterman says Team Jones is very motivated to get into the national women's curling championships in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. She notes they hit the ice for the wild card play-in game against another Manitoba rink - Team Tracy Fleury - on Friday, February 14th.
Peterman talks about her background with the town of Olds and looks forward to competing here in April.
She has not had the chance to curl in a competitive event at the Olds SportsComplex before.
The big event at the Olds SportsComplex from April 29th through May 3rd will feature 12 of the top men's curling teams and 12 of the top women's curling teams from around the world. The exceptional talent pool - including the season’s Grand Slam champions - will compete in round-robin play for a combined $250,000 purse and the coveted Humpty’s Champions Cup title.
Lyle Peterman with the host committee says ticket sales remain steady and they are now approaching 80 per cent capacity. Weekend and weekday packages will go on sale on March 13th.
