Blake Richards has been appointed as the Chair of a House of Commons Special Committee on Co-operatives.
A new House of Commons Special Committee on Co-operatives is being chaired by Wildrose MP Blake Richards.
Richards says he's honoured to be named chair & takes his duties seriously.
He explains that the 12 member committee is getting set to meet over the summer & hear testimonies from various groups involved with cooperatives as well as credit unions.
According to Richards, cooperatives play a big role in rural communities.
Richards adds there are about 9000 co-operatives across the country and 18
million Canadians are members.
The Wildrose MP tells us what the committee will be focussing on over the next few months.
A report will be produced by the committee and presented to the house of
commons in September.
