MNP Canada Winter Games Torch Relay Announcement

Red Deer will host the 2019 Canada Winter Games from February 15th through March 3rd. It will feature over 150 events in 19 sports as the city welcomes up to 3,600 athletes. Details about the MNP Canada Games Torch Relay were unveiled during a press conference on Tuesday, May 15th.

The MNP Canada Games Torch Relay will stop in the town of Olds on January 31st, 2019.
 
At a press conference at the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame on Tuesday, May 15th the route for the upcoming winter games torch relay was announced.
 
It will officially start in Ottawa from the Centennial Flame on Parliament Hill this fall and will visit nearly 50 communities across the country before arriving in Red Deer for the opening ceremonies on February 15th.
 
Lyn Radford, 2019 Canada Winter Games Board Chair, says this is the first time the entire country will be involved in the torch relay.
 
 
 
 
She notes the Canada Winter Games torch relay will also visit Rocky Mountain House on January 24th and Innisfail on January 30th.
 
 

 

Radford describes it as a uniquely branded torch.

 

 

She was pleased with the turnout for the press conference.

 

 
According to Radford, the 2019 Canada Winter Games will be the largest event to be hosted in Red Deer's history.
 
 
 
 
Radford emphasizes the fact that the torchbearer nomination deadline is 4pm on June 30th.
