Mountain View County council has approved funding of up to $1-million dollars based on community donations received toward the construction of the Rotary Athletic Park of Olds.
The Rotary Athletic Park of Olds will create the opportunity for local families and residents to stay and play in the community, according to Mountain View County's Reeve.
The County's major funding commitment regarding the park was announced this week.
Bruce Beattie says Mountain View County council approved contributing up to $1-million dollars towards the Rotary Athletic Park of Olds during the Wednesday, February 13th meeting.
He says the athletic park will benefit all of Mountain View County.
He notes the County will match the community donations that are collected up until December 31st, 2019. Reeve Beattie says the amount donated is already well over $900-thousand dollars.
Reeve Beattie adds, that amounts to about $2.6-million dollars per year that goes towards recreation. The operating side takes about $2-million per year that goes towards operating those facilities. He says the balance of that funding is set aside to the newly created Recreational Capital Fund which municipalities can access.
Reeve Beattie says the economic spinoff of the Rotary Athletic Park will also greatly benefit Mountain View County when sporting events are hosted there.
The Rotary Athletic Park of Olds is located in the northwest corner of Olds. It will feature four soccer fields, four baseball diamonds, 10 horseshoe pits, on-site washroom facilities and a future field house and playground.
