Olds College recently announced Debbie Thompson is its new Vice President of Academic & Student Experience and Chief Innovation Officer. Thompson holds a Master of Arts Degree in Leadership and Training from Royal Roads University and a Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of Calgary.

Fantastic Results For Olds Fireman Bucket Challenge
A total of $9224 dollars was raised and 2200 pounds of food was collected during the Olds Fireman Bucket Challenge on Thursday, December 14th. Proceeds from the first annual event will benefit the Mountain View Food Bank, the Olds & District Christmas Angels Society and Chinook Arch Victim Services.

There will be no tax increase for Town of Innisfail ratepayers, according to Mayor Jim Romane. Town council approved the 2018 budget during the December 11th meeting.

MV County 2018 Project Budget
Mountain View County Council approved the project budget for 2018 at $29.2 million dollars. It is comprised of $26 million in capital projects, $2.2 million of operating projects and $842,000 of liability expenses. Reeve Bruce Beattie adds, that will carry the county through until spring when the provincial government requisitions will be handed down.

NU2U Thrift Store - 2017 Fall Grant Allocations
Olds council approved the fall 2017 NU2U grant allocations earlier this week. The organizations receiving grant money this fall from NU2U are $5000 to the Olds & District Hospice Society, $6150 to Olds High School and $2000 to the Youth Empowerment (YES) Program. Councillor Mary-Jane Harper noted during the Monday, December 11th meeting that since 2011 over $206,000 dollars has been redistributed by NU2U to other community groups & organizations.

With the Town of Sundre eliminating the Municipal Planning Commission, they have been able to streamline development for residents at a faster pace by eliminating unnecessary steps. That is according to Sundre's Economic Development Officer Jon Allan. He says the decision making has now been moved "in house" and it is governed by the land use bylaw.
Olds Fireman Bucket Challenge
The town of Olds Fire Department will be putting one of its members into the basket of the ladder truck and hoisting him 80 feet in the air. The Olds Fireman Bucket Challenge will start at 9am on Thursday, December 14th and it will continue until their goal of collecting $2500 dollars cash and or 2000 pounds of food is reached. The latest it will go is until midnight.
2018 Operating & Capital Budgets Approved By Olds Council
An operating budget for next year of just over $28.4 million dollars and a capital budget of a little more than $7.65 million have been given the green light by Olds council. Council also approved the 2019 to 2028 multi-year capital plan for Olds in the amount of just over $60 million dollars during the Monday, December 11th meeting.
