The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and the Minister responsible for Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD), has announced over $1.9 million in Regional Innovation Ecosystems (RIE) funding towards Olds College to bolster Alberta’s agriculture industry.
The Olds College Smart Farm will continue to grow with funding dollars from Western Economic Diversification Canada.
Olds College President Stuart Cullum says the $1.9 million dollar investment will help demonstrate technology in the field for Phase 2.
Cullum adds they intend to grow the footprint of the Smart Farm over time with over 2-thousand acres of land at Olds College.
The investment was announced this week during AgSmart at Olds College.
The Smart Farm was launched in June of last year.
Meantime, AgSmart - a two-day agriculture technology expo - has wrapped up for 2019.
Cullum says the educational demonstration show at Olds College for producers & industry has been well received.
The inaugural edition of AgSmart took place on Tuesday, August 13th and Wednesday, August 14th.
According to Cullum, the intent for AgSmart is for it to become an annual event.
He says AgSmart is an event they are proud to host along with AgriTrade.
