The Olds Grizzlys busted out of their nine game losing streak on Saturday, February 8th by beating the Fort McMurray Oil Barons 5-2 at home. It was also the first victory for new Head Coach & GM Scott Atkinson.
Logan Bromhead had a pair of goals in the victory to give him 18 for the season.
Duncan Hughes stopped 37 of the 39 shots he faced. Fort Mac outshot Olds 23-6 in the second period and 39-31 for the game.
Zafir Rawji scored a power play goal and added an assist. The OGs were 1 for 2 on the PP. The Barons were 0 for 3.
Noah Hackett and Greg Nelson had a couple of assists each. Nelson also fought Ethan Jamernik late in the third period.
Dawson Leroux scored his first career goal at home for the Grizzlys - his previous 4 AJHL tallies had all come on the road.
The Grizzlys rounded out the weekend by travelling to Drumheller on Sunday where the Dragons would beat them 6-zip.
Since Atkinson took over as coach on January 27th, the Grizzlys record is 1-4-and-1.
However, Olds is looking good to make the playoffs for the first time in three seasons. The Grizzlys (10-36-6) are holding down the 6th and final playoff spot in the South Division. They are eight points up on the last place Calgary Canucks (8-43-2). Olds has six games remaining in the regular season, while Calgary only has five left.
Next action for both teams is on Valentine's Day - the Grizzlys will host Camrose on Friday, February 14th while the Canucks will start a 4 game road trip in Grande Prairie.
