Mounties believe severe weather was a contributing factor to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 2A south of the town of Olds at Township Road 320 on Thursday, September 18th.
Olds, Alberta ~ On Thursday, September 18th at 8:45pm Olds RCMP, Fire and EMS were dispatched to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 2A south of Olds at Township Road 320.
Police found a single sport utility vehicle (SUV) had rolled after it exited Highway 2A into the ditch during a severe thunderstorm.
The SUV sheared off a power pole as a result of the collision.
A female driver was found to be unconscious and trapped in the vehicle.
She was transported to Didsbury Hospital upon extraction where she was further airlifted by STARS Air Ambulance with serious injuries.
Two other passengers were transported to Didsbury Hospital via EMS with non-life threatening injuries.
The collision had resulted in a temporary closure of Highway 2A at the Olds/Didsbury Airport and traffic was re-routed for a period of about 3 hours.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation but RCMP believe severe weather to be a contributing factor.
