Olds Runner & Her Team Complete Canadian Death Race In Grande Cache

A local running team completed the Canadian Death Race in Grande Cache over the August long weekend in very muddy conditions.

The Canadian Death Race in Grande Cache was on a local runner's bucket list.

Running enthusiast Carol Burk from Olds completed the race with her team that she met through the Running Room in Red Deer.

She says the race has to be completed in 24 hours and they finished in 19 hours. It includes 5 legs of various distances and challenges. According to Burk, she completed her 19 kilometer leg in 2 hours, 34 minutes.

Burk says last year her team was 5 minutes late of the cut off time and they could not finish the race.

She says this time around they were 42nd out of 79 relay teams and 24th out of 42 in the mixed relay teams.

Burk will be 68 years old in 2 weeks and she tells new runners to hang in there.

Burk says she slipped and broke her little toe and needed 5 stitches in her elbow on the Tuesday before the race on the Heritage Day long weekend.

Up next she will be running the 50 Ultra Grizzly Relay in October and a few more races in September including the 5 Peaks in Canmore.
