RCMP & EMS Responde To Avalanche In Clearwater County

Rocky Mountain House RCMP and emergency crews responded to an avalanche in Clearwater County on Saturday, March 10th.

Mounties received an emergency S-O-S signal from a G-P-S device at a location approximately 140 kilometers west of Rocky Mountain House in the back country of Clearwater County.
 
It happened on Saturday, March 10th at about 12:15pm and it was determined the S-O-S signal was coming from an individual who was ice climbing.
 
Rocky Mountain House RCMP had an officer in the immediate area who responded to the scene. The Rocky Mountain House Search and Rescue - Mountain Rescue Team - was also deployed to the location along with Ahlstrom Helicopers for air support.
 
The injured male along with his three ice climbing partners managed to walk off the mountain to the roadway.
 
It was learned that an avalanche had occurred while the four climbers were climbing an ice wall.

The injured climber was treated on scene by EMS from Nordegg. He was then transferred to STARS and airlifted to Edmonton for his non-life threatening injuries.
 
Rocky Mountain House RCMP would like to remind the public about the natural hazards in the back country at this time of year.
