Special Olympics Olds & District Bowlers Competing At Canadian Championships

The opening ceremonies for the 2018 Special Olympics Canada Bowling Championships in Charlottetown, P.E.I. are on Tuesday, May 15th. Karen Mengersen, Bowling Coach and Chair of Special Olympics Olds & District, says their five pin bowling team from this area includes Derek Dukes, Derek Hallet, Joey Remple, Karen Bystrom and Sandra McCloskey, while their 10 pin bowler is Mark Mengersen.

The Special Olympics Canada Bowling Championships are taking place in Prince Edward Island from May 14th to the 19th.
 
Karen Mengersen, Bowling Coach and Chair of Special Olympics Olds & District, says they are sending a five pin bowling team and a 10 pin bowler to P.E.I. for the competition.
 
 
 
 
Mengersen explains how their athletes qualified for the national championships.
 
 
 
 
She notes the competition runs Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with the semi-finals and finals on Saturday.
 
 

 

She notes they also have a swimmer who will get a chance to compete at nationals later this year.

 

 
 
Mengersen is very thankful for the way the community supports the Special Olympics Olds & District program.
 
 
 
 
Mengersen says Team Alberta is sending a total of 35 five pin bowlers and a dozen ten pin bowlers to this year's Special Olympics Canada Bowling Championships.
