Council is excited to be able to share with the town's citizens the announcement of an agreement to purchase the current AG Foods building as an asset for the community, according to Mayor Rhonda Hunter. She says it is a purchase that realizes the beginning of the long-awaited start-up of development in Shantz Crossing.
The town of Didsbury continues to move ahead with its plans to purchase the current AG Foods building.
AG Foods will be moving to the new Buy-Low Foods in Shantz crossing once it is constructed over the next year.
Mayor Rhonda Hunter says the town purchased the building as an asset at this point.
She says Buy Low Foods has kick started Shantz Crossing, which will create economic spinoff.
Mayor Hunter says the move in date for the new Buy-Low Foods is slated for next fall.
Council approved the deposit of $110,000 be paid for the eventual purchase of the AG Foods building for $1.1 million dollars, in order to facilitate the sale of Lot 9 in the Shantz Crossing development to Buy-Low Foods.
Meanwhile, there is filming going on this week in Didsbury for a movie production.
Mayor Rhonda Hunter says it is always exciting to have film companies in town. She adds, it is a great feather in Didsbury's cap to highlight the community and tourism.
She says the production is set in current times and they are using the downtown, businesses and the hospital.
Robin Wright makes her directorial debut in "Land". She will play the main character. The film also features Benicio Del Toro.
Mayor Hunter notes there are some road closures this week, and they are listed on the town of Disbury website.
