Town of Olds - Unofficial Municipal By-Election Results

Of the 7270 eligible voters in the town of Olds, 1047 cast ballots in the municipal by-election to fill the one vacant spot on Olds council. Mitch Thomson was the winner of the by-election with 349 votes and he will become the town's newest councillor.

Mitch Thomson has been elected to Olds council.

Thomson received 33.3 per cent support from eligible voters in the 2020 town of Olds municipal by-election to fill the vacant seat at the council table.

His total of 349 votes was followed by Darren Wilson with 282, Rudy Durieux with 133, Keith Bishop with 110, Darcy Dobush with 73, Jan Thompson with 62 and rounding out the field of seven candidates was Sundai Cody with 38.

Town of Olds Returning Officer Marcie McKinnon was pleased with the voter turnout of 14.4 per cent and thanked all citizens who exercised their right to vote. 

One Olds council seat became available back in October when councillor Wade Bearchell tendered his resignation citing personal reasons.

Thomson will join Mayor Michael Muzychka along with councillors Debbie Bennett, Wanda Blatz, Mary Jane Harper, Mary Anne Overwater, and Heather Ryan on Olds town council.
