Andrea Hawiuk from Olds is nominated for a 2020 Women of Excellence Award in the Community Building category. Hawiuk was surprised but says it is an honour to be nominated. She started Moonbeams and Miracles, an annual concert event in 1984 to raise money for local charities. Over the years it has raised thousands of dollars for the local Hospice Society, Olds & District Special Olympics as well as programs that address mental health.
Earlier this month, the Red Deer & District Community Foundation revealed the nominees for the 13th annual Women of Excellence Awards Gala.
Andrea Hawiuk is one of the six nominees from the town of Olds.
A total of 48 amazing ladies have been nominated in 12 different categories.
Hawiuk has always enjoyed volunteering in the community.
The conference is "The Conversation has to happen.. again" which she says is heading into its 5th year as a one-day event which offers hope to those affected by suicide and depression.
Hawiuk also started Moonbeams and Miracles, an annual concert event in 1984 to raise money for local charities.
The other 5 nominees from the town of Olds are:
Carol Johnston in Arts, Culture & Heritage.
Joy Cavin in Community Building.
Valerie Norman in Education and Training.
Dr. Jody Carrington in Health and Wellness.
Along with Raelynn Notley in the Human Services category.
The guests will be invited to get all dressed up - as they would in a normal year - for the 13th annual Women of Excellence Awards Gala hosted through Zoom video conferencing webinars on June 13th.
