Alberta RCMP Say Vandalism Of Election Signs May Lead To Criminal Charges

Police are asking Albertans to respect the democratic process and are advising citizens that these cases are being taken seriously.

Edmonton, Alberta ~ The Alberta RCMP, Calgary Police Service and Edmonton Police Service are reminding the public that tampering with election signs could lead to charges under the criminal code of Canada.
RCMP Constable Mike Hibbs says in some cases, these acts of vandalism also include other types of property damages and even hate speech. He notes police have received numerous reports of candidate signs being vandalized. Hibbs says these incidents are being investigated and charges will be laid accordingly.
Albertans are urged to call police or CRIMESTOPPERS if they see anyone vandalizing or stealing an election sign.
