Coaching Change For HJHL's Mountain View Colts

The man who led the Mountain View Colts to their first and only Heritage Junior Hockey League championship will be back behind the bench this fall. Gord Olsen was the Colts bench boss from 2010 through 2017 before moving up into the role of General Manager for the past 2 seasons. He says last year's Head Coach Rob Turville will not be back for 2019-2020 due to family commitments.

Gord Olsen will be back behind the bench for the Mountain View Colts for the upcoming Heritage Junior Hockey League season.

Olsen says he will make his return following the departure of last year's Head Coach Rob Turville.

Olsen credits Turville's coaching staff and their players for a memorable playoff run this past season - and says he won't be trying to change much as the Colts look ahead to next year.

Mountain View was third in the HJHL's Northern Division in 2018-2019 with a record of 22-14-2. The Colts swept Ponoka in the opening round of the playoffs, before making a miraculous comeback against the 2-time defending league champions in the second round. They fell behind the Red Deer Vipers 3 games to none, then rallied to pull off a reverse sweep including overtime wins in games 5,6 and 7. The Colts would then push this year's eventual league and provincial champions - the Airdrie Thunder - to 6 games in the Northern Division Final.

Olsen has spent the past 2 years as Mountain View's General Manager.

He had previously been the Colts Head Coach for seven seasons.

As Head Coach, Olsen helped lead the Colts to their first HJHL championship in 2016.

In his last three years in that role, Mountain View was able to advance to at least the HJHL's Northern Division Final.

They also broke the franchise record for regular season wins in back to back years with 27 in 2015-2016 and 29 during 2016-2017.

Meantime the Mountain View Colts annual golf tournament is coming up on Saturday, June 15th at the Didsbury Golf Course.

The cost is $100 dollars per player of 400 bucks for a team. It includes 18 holes of golf, prizes and a steak dinner.
