Peter Premachuk, Franchise Owner of the H&R Block in Olds, notes the Canada Revenue Agency website has made some changes in the last week to say "they are seeking T1 returns by June 1st" and on the same page it says as long as you file by September 1st there will be no interest or penalties. So, he says in effect the deadline for tax returns is September 1st.
The Franchise Owner of the H&R Block in Olds says Monday, June 1st was supposed to be the tax deadline for T1 returns.
However, Peter Premachuk notes the Canada Revenue Agency website has made some changes in the last week.
He explains what message H&R Block will be passing along to its clients.
According to Premachuk, the CRA has indicated to H&R Block there are 3 to 4 million Canadians who had filed tax returns by this time last year that still have not filed.
He believes some of the reasons for that are seniors not being able to get out during the COVID-19 pandemic and people's cash flow not being as strong as it used to be so maybe they are trying to figure it out themselves.
If you have questions contact H&R Block or Premachuk says there is a wealth of information available on the Canada Revenue Agency website as well.
