After brushing aside the Stettler Lightning in the opening round of the Heritage Junior Hockey League playoffs, the Mountain View Colts will next clash with the Airdrie Thunder in the Northern Division semi-finals.
As heard on 96.5 CKFM, the Mountain View Colts swept aside the Stettler Lightning on Saturday night in Didsbury.
Mountain View won Game 3 by the score of 4-1 to take the best of five opening round HJHL playoff series 3 games to none.
22 year old defenceman Corbin Houchin from Bowden broke a 1-all tie by netting the game winning goal mid-way through the third period on a Colts power play.
21 year old defenceman Trey Wallace from Didsbury was confident the Colts would finish off the sweep.
Nine different players scored goals for Mountain View during the three game sweep of Stettler.
The Colts outshot the Lightning by a combined total of 127-51 while winning Game 1 by the score of 5-0 in Didsbury and 9-3 in Stettler.
Game 3 at the Didsbury Memorial Complex was tied 1-1 heading into the third period. Mountain View turned it up in the final 20 minutes outshooting Stettler 24-6 while getting a Houchin's PPG, plus a shorthanded goal from Travis Gerrard and an empty netter from Mitch Visser. Visser - a 20 year old forward from Didsbury - leads the HJHL playoffs with 5 goals so far.
19 year old forward Sam Kolke from Three Hills had opened the scoring 1:28 into the first period for the Colts.
Final shots in Game 3 were 57-26.
22 year old forward Josh Gette from Innisfail is tied with Layne Sniher from the High River Flyers for the league lead in playoff points with 9. Gette had 2 assists in Game 3.
20 year old netminder Ethan Woodward played every second against the Lightning for Mountain View. He compiled a 3-0 record with a goals against average of 1.33 and a save percentage of .950 by stopping 76 of the 80 shots he faced.
The Mountain View Colts will face the Airdrie Thunder in the Northern Division semi-finals.
On Monday in Rocky Mountain House, the 3rd place Sylvan Lake Wranglers won 4-1 to take that series from the Rocky Rams 3 games to 1.
As a result the 4th place Colts (19-16-3) draw the 1st place Thunder (29-7-2) in the next round of the playoffs, while the 3rd place Wranglers (23-13-2) will take on the 2nd place Red Deer Vipers (24-13-1).

The regular season series saw two of the games require extra time as the Colts went 1-2-1 versus the Thunder. Airdrie escaped with a 4-2 series victory over Mountain View in the Northern Division Final during last year's run to winning both the HJHL title and a Hockey Alberta Junior B Provincial Championship.
