10 student athletes from Olds High School participated in the Alberta Schools Athletic Association's provincial track & field meet in Calgary on June 7th & 8th. The Spartans brought back 3 medals. Haylin Eling claimed silver medals in both shot put and discus throw. Abi Irving secured a bronze medal in the junior women's 400 meter dash.
The Olds High School senior track team placed 12th out of 53 (3A) schools on June 7-8 at provincials in Calgary.
OHS Track Coach Wanda Vandervelden talks about this year's track & field season.
In Calgary, the OHS track team had to face rain, snow, and wind on Friday during the 3A provincials.
Vandervelden says Haylin Eling had a personal best in shot put; taking home second place.
Eling won silver medals in both junior women's shot put and the discus throw.
Vandervelden says Abi Irving earned a bronze medal thanks to her third place finish in the 400m race and she was 5th in the 200m.
Meanwhile, Jesse Maetche was seventh in the javelin.
Jaeden Cameron made the finals in the 200m.
The 4 by 400m mixed relay of Teagan Rose, Aaralyn Longmuir, Cody Gelinas and Dylan Ellis placed 6th.
The 4 by 100m team of Nova Van Soest, Aaralyn Longmuir, Teagan Rose and Abi Irving placed 9th.
Vandervelden says David Hoppins ran the hurdles in the worst weather of the weekend and missed the final.
She adds, all of the athletes from OHS posted personal best times and throws.
