Olds College - COVID-19 Update - Public Areas On Campus Closed

Olds College announced at about 5pm on Tuesday, March 17th that all public spaces on campus are now closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

    Public Areas on Campus Closed

    • Based on the guidelines provided by the Alberta Government, all public space on Olds College will be closed, including:

      • The Atrium located in the Land Science Building, Wetlands and Botanic Gardens

      • CLC Fitness Centre, riding arenas and gymnasiums 

      • The Crossing, Tim Hortons and Centre Court in RKC

      • All student lounges, such as the Hive

    • Elements Dining Hall will have reduced hours, and limit capacity to 50 patrons at a time.

      • New Hours: 7:00 - 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. daily.

    • The Learning Commons front desk is open, however the social spaces in the Learning Commons are closed. 

    • The Health & Wellness Centre remains open, however all counseling appointments will now be done over the phone or through video conference. Doctors will not be on campus, the school nurse will be available. 

    • Greenhouse Sales will continue.

    • The Retail Meat Store will remain open until Friday, March 21. 

    • The Brewery will remain open, but limit patrons allowed in at one time.

    • Events that have 50 or more attendees will be canceled. 

    St. Patrick’s Day Gatherings

    We all have a role to play in preventing the spread of COVID-19, and to protect those among us who are more vulnerable to this deadly virus.The best defence for us to stop the spread of the virus is to avoid large public gatherings. We implore all students to avoid public St. Patrick’s Day events. 

    Classes Cancelled March 16-20, 2020

    All classes remain suspended from March 16-20, 2020. Classes will resume Monday, March 23 in an online or alternate format. More details will be provided to students from instructors and deans as they become available.  

    Campus Housing

    Students are permitted to begin moving out of residence effective Tuesday, March 17, 2020.  A refund for early withdrawal from residence will be applied without penalty. Students will also be removed from the meal plan without penalty. Please fill out the Move Out Notice .  

    At this time, students are not required to leave campus housing. If you are planning on staying in campus housing, please fill out the Staying in Residence form. Given how quickly the COVID-19 situation is evolving, students should  investigate alternative housing options in order to be prepared should the situation change. At this time, food services on campus will continue to be available in Elements Dining Hall with reduced hours.

    Travel Restrictions

    The following travel restrictions are in place:

    • All Olds College related international travel by staff is not permitted until further notice. 
    • Due to the risk inherent from airports, all Olds College related air travel is not permitted until further notice.
    • Olds College business related travel, outside of the province, is limited to only that travel deemed essential/critical to Olds College business. All Olds College employees must get permission for any out of province travel considered essential/critical. This permission will only be granted at the VP level.
    • Olds College does not classify Professional Development as essential at this time.  All non-essential Olds College related travel should be canceled. 
    • In addition, international travel for personal reasons is not recommended.
