A structure fire at 5600 Sunrise Crescent in Olds required a response from the town of Olds Fire Department on Friday, May 22nd. No injuries were reported.
Last Friday (May 22nd) at about 7:39am the Olds Fire Department was called to structure fire reported at 5600 Sunrise Crescent in Olds.
Upon arrival, crews found that part of the buildings mechanical system had failed causing excessive heat to build up within the mechanical room.
Residents of this senior’s care facility were kept in their respective rooms in a shelter in place strategy, while the situation was managed.
This was the decided action as part of emergency response planning conducted with the Season’s staff and fire prevention officers.
Building safety systems functioned as designed, and the risk to residents was minimized by fast action and reporting. Social distancing and isolation practices were kept in place for the safety of residents and staff, which adds more complex aspects to how the situation was handled.
There was no structural damage as a result of the failure, and all smoke and steam was ventilated quickly by the fire department.
A total of 15 firefighters responded in two engines, a ladder truck and support unit along with AHS EMS units managed the incident.
There were no injuries reported as a result of the incident, and no occupants required assessment. Staff and firefighters conducted wellness checks on all occupants as a result.
The cause of this event is not considered suspicious and facility maintenance staff had been activated prior to the resolution of the occurrence.
