As part of Stage 2 of Alberta's relaunch during the COVID-19 pandemic, the town of Olds is reopening a number of facilities - including the Splash Park and the Aquatic Centre. They are both set to reopen to the public on Monday, July 13th.
The annual fall maintenance has been completed, the tile replacement on the pool floor has been done and the Olds Aquatic Centre is slated to reopen next week.
Doug Wagstaff, Director of Community Services, says the town utilized the time while the doors were shut during the COVID-19 pandemic to fully drain the pool for the first time in 15 years and bump up a renovation project.
He notes there will be new COVID-19 mitigation measures in place for the Aquatic Centre's guests.
He adds, there is going to be a limited schedule for lane swims and scheduled swims that people can call in for. There will not be public swims or swimming lessons. The diving board, water slide and hot tub are all closed at this time.
Wagstaff says the Olds Aquatic Centre is back up to about 25-30 staff members and it will reopen on Monday, July 13th.
Also during the COVID-19 pandemic, a water recirculation holding tank replacement was completed at the Olds Splash Park.
Wagstaff says the Splash Park is all set to reopen next week.
He notes because of the cleaning schedule and the availability of staff, the Splash Park will be open daily - weather permitting - from noon until 7pm.
It will reopen on Monday, July 13th.
